Keeping players fit and available throughout the season is just as important as improving performance. Research shows that sudden spikes in workload and repetitive training routines can significantly increase injury risk. Two key methods help address this challenge:
- Acute:Chronic Workload Ratio (ACWR): Compares short-term (acute) workload to long-term (chronic) workload, helping identify when a player is at higher risk due to sudden workload increases.
- Monotony: Measures how varied or repetitive training loads are. High monotony means less variation, which can lead to fatigue buildup and increased injury risk.
